Excel Services II: Requirements, recommendations, and permissions

An animated example of how to change what happens when people with different permissions click a file name.

You might not mind the different results people get when clicking the file name. But maybe you do. Perhaps you'd like to make sure that anyone who clicks a file name in an Excel Services library will see the file automatically open in Excel Services, no matter which group they belong to.

You can set up the library to do this. Click the word Play above the picture to see how to do this.

Note     If the Report Center site is used at your company, the ready-made document library called Reports Library automatically opens files in Excel Services instead of in the Excel program.

Animation description:

In the SharePoint document library, the cursor clicks Settings, clicks Document Library Settings, then Advanced Settings and Display as a Web page.

When people in the Owners, Members, Visitors, and Viewers group click the file name, it opens in Excel Services. The Edit in Microsoft Excel command is still available to people in the Owners and Members group if they need to use it.
