Drag the misaligned edge until the dotted line falls precisely over the correct column edge.
Misaligned cells can be quick and easy to correct. The important thing is to correct them precisely in order to avoid the need for overcomplicated workarounds.
When you press and hold the ALT key while dragging to resize a column or row, you can resize it by as little as 1/100th of an inch. The same is true for sizing individual cells in a column.
To precisely realign cells, make sure non-printing gridlines are turned on in order to see cell edges more clearly. To do this, on the Table menu, click Show Gridlines. Then:
- Start by increasing your zoom so that the column edges are clear and easy to see.
- Next, press and hold the ALT key. Then click the misaligned edge and drag, as you see in the example at left.
- When the dotted line falls precisely over the correct column edge, release the mouse button and then release the ALT key.
Tip You can also use the Table Properties dialog box to precisely resize cells.
