Use Visio drawings in presentations, documents, and publications

A Visio drawing with a caption in a Word document

Captions are automatically numbered in Word with their sequence in the document; you won't need to manually work out the caption numbers.

It's possible that your Visio drawing already has labels or text included, but you might also want to add captions to the drawing in Word. Captions are very useful, especially if there are several drawings or graphics in a document.

To insert a caption:

  1. Click the drawing to select it.
  2. On the Insert menu, point to Reference.
  3. Click Caption. In the Caption dialog box, choose your desired options from the Label and Position lists. If you wish to name the caption something other than the default labels, click New Label and add the text you want.

Captions can be added to any Visio drawing regardless of the insertion method.
