Adjust your data use settings

You can control whether you want to make Skype_for_Business_Lync audio and video calls and share meeting content by using Wi-Fi only, or by using your cellular data connection when you’re not connected to Wi-Fi.

To view or change your data use settings:

  • On the my info screen, tap Options. The wi-fi settings will be displayed at top of the screen. Tap the Require Wi Fi… setting you want to change.

Here are the possible settings, default values, and their significance:

Require Wi-Fi for VoIP

Skype_for_Business_Lync will try to use Wi-Fi to make Skype_for_Business_Lync calls, but when you’re not connected to Wi-Fi, Skype_for_Business_Lync will use your cellular data connection.

…to ON: If you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network, Skype_for_Business_Lync will try to use Wi-Fi for calls. If you’re not connected to Wi-Fi when you make an audio or video call, Skype_for_Business_Lync calls you back at the number you specify. In this scenario, you’ll be connected to the audio portion of the Skype_for_Business_Lync call only. Video won’t be available. This might result in usage of your mobile voice plan minutes.

Require Wi-Fi for Video

ON

Skype_for_Business_Lync will use only Wi-Fi to make Skype_for_Business_Lync video calls. It will never use your cellular data connection to send or receive video.

…to OFF: Skype_for_Business_Lync will use your cellular data connection to send and receive video when you’re not connected to a Wi-Fi network. If you are connected to Wi-Fi, Skype_for_Business_Lync tries to use the Wi-Fi network for video instead. Video isn’t available for calls connected via your mobile number over the cellular voice network.

Require Wi-Fi for Content

ON

Skype_for_Business_Lync will use only Wi-Fi to receive meeting content. It won’t use your cellular data connection to receive meeting content.

…to OFF: Skype_for_Business_Lync will use your cellular data connection to allow you to receive meeting content when you’re not connected to a Wi-Fi network. If you are connected to Wi-Fi, Skype_for_Business_Lync will try to use the Wi-Fi network to receive meeting content instead.
